Reilly Team to “Fight the Flooding” with levee system plan
In 2011, West Pittston Borough experienced catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Lee. The storm inundated over 100 structures causing nearly 100 million in damages.
Since 1996, the Susquehanna River has experienced 3 of the 5 highest flood levels ever recorded, including the 2011 Flood of Record.
FEMA is anticipated to revised its Flood maps again in 2020 designating hundreds more homes in the Borough in flood hazard zones.
VP of Reilly Associates Joe Durkin, pictured left, described the purpose and location of potential storm water pumping stations at the recently held Borough Council Meeting of West Pittston.
The importance of the study is identify a feasible levee system to protect the homes in West Pittston, and Reilly is proud to be part of the engineering team conducting the study!
